Al Rayan Bank has announced today that due to feedback its customers now have longer to sign up to its new banking app to ensure an uninterrupted service.

The challenger bank came under criticism when it initially gave customers less than a week’s notice to sign up to or register for the new banking app. Al Rayan Bank initially extended the sign up deadline to 4 March, however today it has announced that customers now have until the 13 March to sign up to or register for the new app.

A spokesperson for Al Rayan Bank said: “Following feedback from our customers, we’ve extended the time to register for the new app or a hard token device until 13 March. Customers will still be able to register for the new app any time after 13 March and all of their banking arrangements - including their account number, sort code and any standing orders or Direct Debits they have set up - will remain the same, but they will not be able to view accounts online after 13 March until they have registered for the new app or hard token device.

“We have also put further measures in place to help customers registering for the new mobile banking service This includes increasing our contact centre staff further and introducing a call back facility for customers to request for us to contact them. We have contacted our customers today to update them of this.”

In addition to this, Al Rayan Bank has sent out information to its customers today providing more details about its hard tokens. Customers who wish to continue banking online can order a free hard token device by calling the bank on 0800 408 6407 or by leaving their contact details at alrayanbank.co.uk/digital-callback. New customers will not be able to bank with Al Rayan through online banking, however they can use other channels including mobile banking, in branch, by post and by phone.
