Latest mortgage news: Several of the lowest fixed mortgage rates increase as lenders start to raise rates.

It hasn’t been an encouraging start to September for those planning to take out a mortgage as interest rates seem to be on the rise. Indeed, some of the lowest fixed rates have already edged higher, particularly in the homemover sector, with further increases not off the table.

This upwards trend is largely due to higher swap rates, which jumped up following the renewed tensions in the Middle East. Swap rates influence lenders’ margins and, consequently, how they price their fixed mortgage deals, so it’s no surprise that many of the major UK mortgage lenders, including HSBC, NatWest, Santander, Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Barclays Mortgage, have made increases across their range of fixed mortgage products in recent days.
