A higher £600 is available to eligible customers who open a Premier Account.

From 1 October 2026, customers who switch to a Bank Account from Barclays Bank could receive up to £300, the highest cash incentive available on standard current accounts.

To get the first £150 of this offer, customers need to open a Bank Account via the Barclays Bank mobile app. They then have to use the Current Account Switch Service (CASS) to move their existing current account to Barclays Bank’s Bank Account, which must involve the transfer of at least three active direct debits.

Once the account is up and running, customers need to pay in a minimum of £2,000 within 30 days of opening and make at least 10 debit card transactions. Barclays Bank will pay the £150 bonus within 28 days of meeting the criteria.

The final £150 of the switch incentive will be paid in £30 instalments over the following five months, as long as customers continue to deposit £2,000 or more in their account and make at least 10 debit card payments each month.

“Barclays Bank’s latest switching incentive shows that the battle for current account customers is still very much alive, and consumers have plenty of offers to choose from,” Caitlyn Eastell, Personal Finance Analyst at Moneyfactscompare.co.uk, noted.

“However, Barclays’ headline £300 for standard accounts and £600 for Premier accounts is likely to standout against the rest,” she added.

Barclays Bank hasn’t set an end date for this offer so it could be withdrawn at any time.

Want to get your cash bonus sooner?

While the latest switching offer from Barclays Bank (on both its standard and Premier accounts) pays the highest overall cash bonus compared to other similar accounts, customers will only receive the headline sums of £300 or £600 after around six months.

By contrast, although other banks offer a smaller switch incentive, they pay it as one lump sum. This may appeal to customers who want a cash boost in time for the festive season, for example, although the length of time it can take to get the bonus will vary between providers.

If customers act quickly, they may be able to receive a £240 cash bonus by switching to Santander’s Everyday Current Account and by opening (and funding) a Regular Saver. However, this offer is only available until 7 October 2026.

Alternatively, HSBC is offering a £220 cash incentive on its Bank Account while first direct will pay £210 to those who switch to its 1st Account by 2 December 2026.

Other providers are currently offering attractive cash switch incentives, with £200 available from Lloyds Bank, NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland, with Nationwide BS paying a slightly smaller bonus of £175.

To receive any of these switching offers, customers will need to meet specific requirements, such as having a set number of direct debits, depositing a minimum sum into the account and making a certain number of payments, for example.

Which account offers the best long-term value?

Eastell notes that attractive switching offers can be the “kickstart” consumers need to review their bank account, as well as being a useful way to boost finances when households are under pressure.

However, she says it’s important not to be swayed by the ‘market-leading’ headline alone, urging customers to “pay close attention to eligibility requirements and that they aren’t overpaying for features they do not use”.

Furthermore, it’s always worth looking at the other features of a current account as these could boost its overall value.

For example, some accounts offer cashback on your spending, pay interest on your current account balance and give you access to higher savings rates, which could provide better value in the long term than an account that offers a higher upfront cash bonus but doesn’t have these perks.
