Why trust Moneyfactscompare.co.uk?

About Moneyfactscompare.co.uk: Our history and mission

Moneyfactscompare.co.uk is one of the UK’s longest-established comparison websites which each year helps millions of consumers make more informed financial decisions.

The website is powered by data and expert analysis from its parent company, Moneyfacts Group plc, which has been in operation since 1988.

Moneyfacts Group plc is a leading provider of UK finance data and often sourced by industry bodies such as the Bank of England and Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), as well as major media outlets (including the BBC and Financial Times). In 2000, the company’s founder, John Woods, decided to make its wealth of information available to the masses and thus Moneyfacts.co.uk was born.

Much has changed since then; consumers and their money have endured the highs and lows of the 2008 global financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and a number of different Governments. In 2023, the website was rebranded as Moneyfactscompare.co.uk to better reflect the importance of shopping around for the best rates and, in 2025, it celebrated a quarter of a century of supporting consumers with their finances.

Nevertheless, it’s still the same independent and privately-owned website that our visitors know and trust – whether they’re looking for a savings account, mortgage deal, credit card or insurance policy.

Our commitment to independence and accuracy

Moneyfactscompare.co.uk is an independent source of accurate and reliable financial information. Most of our charts are fuelled by data collected directly from banks, building societies and providers that operate in the UK*, and are regularly updated throughout the day to reflect the best rates currently available.

We are proud to cover the whole of the market when it comes to mortgages, savings, banking, credit cards and personal loans and no one pays to appear on these charts.

How we collect and rank products

Every day, the data teams at Moneyfacts Group plc receive and process over a thousand changes from a vast number of financial providers (ranging from new product launches to adjustments to rates, terms and conditions). The teams also run regular audits to make sure nothing gets missed. Any updates are then reflected on Moneyfactscompare.co.uk.

Our charts are structured to show products that have a third-party link first by default, however, this can easily be changed to rate or alphabetical order using the ‘sort’ dropdown box near the top of any table.

How are Best Buys selected?

Products that earn a spot on the Moneyfacts Best Buy Charts are considered by Moneyfacts Group plc to be the most noteworthy in their category. For savings, this will often be an account offering the highest rate, while mortgages are usually selected based on their overall true cost (rules and exclusions apply). The Moneyfacts Best Buy Charts are constantly updated throughout the day.

How do we allocate Star Ratings?

The team of expert analysts at Moneyfacts Group plc also award Three-, Four- or Five-Star Ratings to standout products. A Moneyfacts Star Rating acts as a badge of quality, and you’ll often find brands showcase our logos on their marketing materials.

Written for real people, by real people

At Moneyfactscompare.co.uk, our commitment to providing trustworthy financial information means we don’t rely on AI-generated content and instead employ a team of in-house (very much human!) writers who put together original and impartial articles, guides and newsletters. While some of our content may appear in AI search results, rest assured that it has been written by a real person with knowledge of financial products and services.

What’s more, all of the content on our website has been thoroughly checked for both accuracy and clarity by the expert analysts and researchers working for Moneyfacts Group plc who share decades of experience in the finance industry.

Who uses our data?

It’s not just Moneyfactscompare.co.uk that uses data from Moneyfacts Group plc – so does almost every UK bank and building society, as well as major industry bodies (including the Bank of England, Financial Conduct Authority, HM Treasury and the Prudential Regulatory Authority).

The data used by Moneyfactscompare.co.uk is also trusted by journalists from national publications (such as the Financial Times, The Sunday Times, Daily Mail and The Guardian) - many of whom are in regular contact with our award-winning press team.

Moneyfacts Group plc has provided Best Buy charts to the UK press and media for over 35 years:

Our FCA permission allows us to introduce customers to other regulated firms, but not to sell products directly or give advice.

How has Moneyfactscompare.co.uk taken on board Consumer Duty regulations?

Moneyfactscompare.co.uk fully endorses Consumer Duty regulations that were brought into effect by the Financial Conduct Authority in 2023 and 2024. Over recent years, we’ve worked hard to make sure our services comply with these standards – thereby offering better value to our users.

Some of the changes we’ve made in response to the Consumer Duty regulations include:

  • Clarifying the different ways users can sort and filter our charts. This involved renaming ‘Quick Links’ to ‘Provider Link’s First’ in the ‘sort’ menu at the top of our charts to make it even more transparent that some products have affiliate links.

  • Designing our content to ensure visitors have a good user experience and are supported in making informed financial decisions.

Is Moneyfactscompare.co.uk reliable?

Yes, Moneyfactscompare.co.uk is reliable. Our data is sourced directly from UK providers, and our charts are regularly updated throughout the day to ensure accuracy. How does Moneyfactscompare.co.uk make money?

It’s easy to tell which products we make money from; wherever you see the orange ‘Go To Provider’s Site’ button on our chart, this means we get paid when you click on, apply for or buy that product.

As you navigate our site, you may also come across an orange ‘Speak to a broker’ button; clicking on this button will take you to one of our partners who will pay us if you purchase a product or follow their advice.

No provider pays to be included on our savings, mortgage, banking, credit card or personal loans charts. However, we may charge a fee if they want to appear on our charts for less standardised products – such as those for insurance and retirement.

Furthermore, we may receive payment from product providers for advertisements and in exchange for affiliate links.

Moneyfactscompare.co.uk is neither a broker nor an adviser - it is an independent and impartial comparison website (i.e. somewhere you can go to find the best rates, compare products and learn more information).

Where do comparison websites get mortgage rates from?

Moneyfactscompare.co.uk gets its mortgage rates from data that its parent company, Moneyfacts Group plc, collects directly from lenders. Its team of expert analysts process a large number of changes every single day which helps keep our charts up to date. Explore current mortgage rates.

Are Moneyfactscompare.co.uk comparisons unbiased?
