Customers who are prepared to switch their current account now have multiple opportunities to earn £200 or more.

Lloyds Bank has joined other banks and building societies in offering a competitive current account switching incentive as, from today (17 September) it will pay a £200 cash bonus to eligible customers.

To receive this £200 switch incentive, customers need to open a Club Lloyds account (including the Silver and Platinum options) or a Lloyds Premier account online, in branch or by phone before 9 December 2026.

They will then need to use the Current Account Switch Service (CASS) to move their existing current account to their Lloyds Bank account (also by 9 December), which must include at least three active direct debits. Any other automated payments (such as standing orders) or any direct debits set up once the switching process has started won’t count.

Once all the conditions are met, Lloyds Bank will pay the £200 bonus into your current account within 14 days of the switch starting.

Bear in mind that this offer isn’t available to anyone wanting to switch from a different Lloyds account, or from a Halifax or Bank of Scotland account. Moreover, you won’t be eligible if you have received a switching offer since 1 January 2023 for moving to any Lloyds Bank, Halifax or Bank of Scotland account.

What other perks does Lloyds Bank offer?

It’s important not to choose a current account based on the upfront cash bonus alone, but the Club Lloyds accounts have a range of other features that may appeal to customers.

For example, these accounts pay interest on balances up to £5,000 (as long as you make at least two direct debits per month), and give customers access to the bank’s Club Lloyds Monthly Saver that pays a market-leading 8.00% AER.

Lloyds Bank also gives Club Lloyds customers a choice of one of the following lifestyle benefits each year:

  • A 12-month subscription to Disney+ Standard With Ads
  • Six cinema tickets from Vue or Odeon
  • An annual magazine subscription (print or digital)
  • An annual Coffee Club and Gourmet Society membership

When spending with their debit card, customers can also earn up to 15% cashback at selected retailers and, if they’re travelling abroad, they can use their debit card without facing any overseas transaction fees.

Although the Club Lloyds accounts charge a £5 monthly fee (with the Silver and Platinum accounts charging an additional £11.50 and £22.50 per month, respectively), this £5 fee will be refunded if you pay £2,000 or more into your current account each month.

In exchange for the additional fees, the Silver account comes with mobile phone insurance, roadside assistance breakdown cover and UK/European travel insurance. The Platinum account offers mobile phone insurance, as well as more comprehensive breakdown cover and worldwide travel insurance. Terms and conditions apply.

“Consumers will need to navigate lots of different offers and perks to find the best account to suit their needs, but if they are happy to either fund an account or pay a small fee, then they could get rewarded with cashback on spending or other money-saving benefits,” Rachel Springall, Finance Expert at Moneyfactscompare.co.uk, explained.

However, she pointed out that, while packaged accounts (such as the Club Lloyds and Lloyds Premier accounts) can be attractive, they are only worth having if customers maximise the benefits, otherwise the fees will be “a waste of money”.

Multiple banks offer £200 or more

In launching its latest switching incentive, Lloyds Bank joins NatWest in offering customers a £200 cash reward for moving to an eligible account.

However, while a £200 bonus is appealing, it’s possible for customers to get an even higher reward from other providers.

For example, earlier this week first direct boosted the switch incentive on its 1st account to £210 until 2 December 2026; find out more about how to qualify for first direct’s switching offer.

Elsewhere, eligible customers could receive £220 by switching to HSBC’s Bank Account or £240 by moving to Santander’s Everyday Current Account.

However, it’s important to note that every switching offer has its own terms and conditions, so customers should always check these before starting the switching process to ensure they’re eligible for the reward.

As well as looking at the criteria of any initial cash reward, it’s just as crucial to review the terms and features of the current account itself, including any fees. An attractive cash bonus can be a tempting reason to open an account, but if the account doesn’t meet your requirements and isn’t the best match for your lifestyle, you could find yourself worse off in the long run.

For example, if you don’t meet certain requirements, you could find yourself paying a monthly fee that outweighs any benefits an account offers. Alternatively, you may find an account that offers a smaller switching incentive could provide a greater return overall if it offers a generous cashback scheme and pays interest on your account balance, for instance.
